Banneker Ventures Breaks Ground on $32M Community Center WASHINGTON, DC - December 17, 2008 - Banneker Ventures, LLC announced today that it broke ground on the new $32 Million community center and library project located in the Deanwoood community of the District of Columbia. Joined by District of Columbia Mayor Adrian M. Fenty, District of Columbia Council Chair Vincent Gray, Ward 7 Councilmember Yvette Alexander, Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development Neil O. Albert, District of Columbia Department of Parks and Recreation Director Clark E. Ray, District of Columbia Public Library Chief Librarian Ginnie Cooper, and other city and neighborhood leaders and residents, Banneker participated in a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the beginning of construction of the Deanwood Community Center and Library. The new 60,000 square foot facility will include co-located functions of the Department of Parks and Recreation and the Library. The facility will include an indoor swimming pool, locker rooms, gymnasium, game room, library, childcare facilities, senior services area, kitchen, and multi-purpose facilities. The Deanwood Community Center and Library will be designed and constructed to meet the requirements for LEED Silver certification. It is expected to be completed in the summer of 2010. Banneker serves as program manager for the project and Regan Associates serves as co-program manager. A joint venture of Forney Enterprises, Inc. and Manhattan Construction Company serves as general contractor. The construction team will maintain at least 50 percent local participation in the project. |
