Banneker Ventures’ President, Omar A. Karim, Among First Place Award Recipients at Clark Construction Group Strategic Partnership Class

Banneker Ventures announced today that its President, Omar A. Karim, was among the First Place Award recipients of the Clark Construction Group Strategic Partnership’s Capstone Project.  The Capstone Project was the culmination of a 10-month comprehensive program that culminated with a presentation by the principals of 40 companies to industry leaders. These 45 principals were grouped in seven teams to compete for the First Place prize.  Mr. Karim was selected Project Manager by his team members at the beginning of the eight week Capstone Project, which resulted in his team winning First Place.

This 10-month initiative was started by Clark Construction Group in 2006 to enhance the capabilities of local, small and disadvantaged businesses in the Washington, D.C. area.  This year’s Strategic Partnership Program, developed in cooperation with the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, marks the fifth year that the Program has been in existence.  The program includes interactive classroom instruction, team projects and presentations. Course instructors include veteran Clark employees, local industry experts and faculty from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.Banneker’s President and the other participants studied topics such as: Project Management Fundamentals; Financial Statements and Accounting; Insurance and Bonding; Architectural Blueprint Reading; and Estimating and Purchasing. In addition, monthly lunch seminars will be facilitated by community partners.

At the award’s ceremony held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Bethesda, Mr. Karim stated that ‘I am humbled to receive this award on behalf of not only the other members of my team, but also the principals of the 39 other small businesses who worked so hard over these past 10 months.
