Project Management Support Services Contract at the U.S. NRC Headquarters

Rockville, MD

Banneker is set to begin work at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Headquarters on a 5-Year Construction Manager as Agent contract that was awarded to Banneker by the NRC in August 2015.  Three seasoned project managers with more than 40 years of (combined) experience will be supporting the NRC at its Headquarters in Rockville, MD where they will be managing the design and construction of over $100MM in projects.  Projects will include tenant improvements, renovations, and build-outs of occupied spaces for both headquarters’ buildings, which total nearly 500,000 sq. ft.  Banneker’s staff will be developing cost estimates, project schedules, risk management plans, submittal reviews, deliverables, analysis of project requests, and overall construction monitoring in accordance with contract documents.

Deanwood Community Center

Banneker served as co-developer and construction manager for the interior demolition of a 221,000 sq. ft., 100 year-old former GSA office building and conversion into 170 residential units and 10,000 sq. ft. of ground floor office and retail space. Construction entailed addition of two stories on top of structure, adding two floors of interior parking and significant interior and exterior abatement. Banneker is providing construction management and quality assurance services (including commissioning agent support services) to GSA’s Facilities Office at the Federal Research Center - White Oak campus, which consists of 2M SF of laboratory and office space.  

GSA is executing a construction program to add new laboratories and office buildings, and upgrading existing facilities at FRC-WO and various design and construction contracts are underway and being phased, with occupancy of new and renovated facilities upon individual project acceptance.   Banneker, and our sub-contractor Jacobs Engineering, is assisting GSA with accepting completed projects and facilitating FDA staff occupancies.  

As such, Banneker is augmenting GSA staff to confirm that all facilities at the White Oak Federal Research Center fully meet the functional and performance requirements of GSA, the facility occupants and the facility operating staff, provide professional support, commissioning oversight and project closeout services during the design, construction and post construction phases for FRC-WO construction program, implement base services for modification to existing FRC-WO facilities and new building construction projects, including CBER Lab 1(302,000 SF), CBER Lab 2 (116,000 SF), CBER Office - Building 71( 323,000 SF), CBER Office - Building 75 (328,000 SF), Child Care Center (20,000 SF) and Southeast Parking Garage (865,000 SF).

WALKER JONES EDUCATIONAL COMPLEX

The Walker Jones Education Complex is a striking new 120,000 square foot education facility located in the Northwest One Community of the District of Columbia. The facility replaces two existing District of Columbia Public School facilities on the site and an adjacent site.

The complex is a new model for co-locating community facilities with libraries and schools in the District. The collective facilities will share resources such as common utilities, mechanical systems and maintenance. The facility is built for LEED Schools Certification and includes a green roof.

The Walker Jones Education Complex is the first new public school built by the Fenty administration and the District's first facility to combine a public school, public library, recreation center, athletic fields and playground. It was also the fastest public school ever built in Washington, DC.

This striking new 120,000 square foot facility replaced two existing District of Columbia Public School facilities on the site and adjacent to the site. The facility includes a 100,000 square foot pre-K through 8 school, containing classrooms, labs, a media center, cafeteria, stage and offices. The school shares a gymnasium with 12,000 square foot community recreation center and new athletic fields and playgrounds, and a 6,000 square foot community library.
